Compact HD H.264 video encoders and decoders provider Teradek has introduced Bond, a cellular bonding offering for mobile content transmission and live reporting from the field.

The camera-top cellular bonding offering fits in the palm and is designed to integrate with Teradek’s Cube video encoder.

This combination incorporates the technologies such as low power hardware H.264 HD video compression, advanced streaming options like RTMP and MPEG-TS, and Teradek’s Adaptive Internet Streaming technology, which dynamically adjusts bit rate and buffering in real time to handle volatile network conditions.

With Bond, the freelance and professional broadcasters can transmit live content over up to five 3G or 4G cellular modems from a smaller and affordable device.

Teradek has developed Sputnik to manage Bond’s multiple data streams. Sputnik is a free proprietary de-bonding software offering that runs on any Linux server or is hosted in the cloud to reassemble data into a single RTMP or MPEG-TS stream.

With Sputnik, users can transmit video to any broadcast decoder, including Teradek’s SDI Cube decoder, or straight to the web via many popular CDNs, said the company.

Teradek CEO Nicol Verheem said Teradek has designed Bond to overcome the bulky hardware and high cost commitments that are common with existing bonding offerings.

"Bond’s small size, ease of use, and affordability makes it an ideal solution for ENG backhaul, sports broadcasts, and live events coverage. Bond allows enterprise content providers to expand the number of field reporters their satellite truck fleet can support and enables independent content producers to enter this market as well. We are very excited to liberate live video production this way," said Verheem.
