Super Micro Computer (Supermicro) has launched new application-optimised server, workstation and blade offerings to support the new generation Intel Xeon Processor 5600/3600 Series.
The company claims that the new offerings will enhance the performance by 60% over the previous generation of Nehalem offerings. The new offerings feature power supplies with the efficiency of more than 94% and tuned cooling subsystems and serverboard designs.
Supermicro’s TwinBlade, based on SBI-7226T-T2 blade, supports up to 20 dual-socket server blades per 7U enclosure. Combined with dual 40Gb/s InfiniBand, FCoE or 10GbE switches and dual 1/10GbE switches in one 7U enclosure, TwinBlade offers high I/O throughput and is suitable for high-performance computing (HPC), datacentre, enterprise and cloud computing environments.
According to Supermicro, the new server and workstation system and motherboard platforms support the entire range of new six-core Intel Xeon Processor 5600/3600 Series, including 130-watt SKUs. The new offerings also support both standard 1.5V DDR3 memory modules and low-voltage 1.35V modules.
In addition, Supermicro also provides storage and networking flexibility with its Universal I/O (UIO) interface that allows customers to choose from a host of I/O cards including SAS 2.0, 10Gb ethernet, fiber channel and QDR/DDR InfiniBand subsystems.
The company said that the new platforms offer onboard IPMI 2.0 with media and KVM-over-LAN support and 10Gb ethernet, high-performance 40Gb/s QDR and cost-effective DDR onboard InfiniBand versions for various serverboards, such as the X8DTT series for its popular multi-node 1U Twin, 2U Twin and 2U Twin(2) servers.
Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro, said: With Supermicro’s innovative architecture and resource sharing, our comprehensive selection of products optimised for the new generation six-core Xeon processors deliver not only the best performance-per-watt but also performance-per-dollar while offering the highest densities in the industry.
