SAP has made the jump to finally offer its platform-as-a-service on clouds other than its own, using its annual Sapphire Now conference to announce a new multicloud offering.
Customers can now take their pick of infrastructure provider with full multicloud support through SAP, Amazon Web Service,, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. The SAP Cloud Platfrom is already live on AWS, with Azure doing a public preview and Google a ‘demo showcase’.
Customer will also an excitingly named ‘cockpit’ for cloud management. The new SAP Cloud Platform cockpit includes multilanguage runtime environments, including Java, Node.js and SAP HANA extended application services, advanced model.
Also announced at the conference and tying in nicely with the multicloud play by SAP, is the expansion of its partnership with Google. The SAP and Google strategic co-innovation partnership announced in March now includes additional certification of SAP technology and applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
The partnership also aims to make SAP Cloud Platform on GCP available globally, as well as future collaboration and integrations in machine learning, the IoT, data transparency and custodian services, and workplace productivity.
SAP and Google have now certified the SAP NetWeaver technology platform on GCP, enabling organizations to run SAP S/4HANA and the SAP Business Warehouse application on GCP. Additionally, the companies announced general availability and certification of the SAP HANA database on GCP for larger instances and scale-out and a data connector for the SAP Analytics Cloud solution for Google Big Query.
The focus at Sapphire wasn’t all multi-cloud and Google, with the expected slew of updates and enhancements to the SAP Cloud Platform. New on the platform is the optimised way customers can discover, try, buy and deploy APIs, SAP partner apps and other digital business services. The SAP API Business Hub has added hundreds of new APIs for SAP S/4HANA, SAP Hybris solutions, and SAP Ariba solutions, as well as new integration flows and microservices for customers to test and deploy.

New value-added services for SAP Cloud Platform include the IoT service general availability and Big Data services to support apps powered by SAP Leonardo, as well as new mobile services and SAP Fiori Cloud app development and deployment services to provide customers a digital edge.
