The Red Hat Summit went through its second and third day with a number of announcements on integrations, OpenStack and a mobile application platform.
1. Mobile Application Platform
The platform is based on the technology that it gained from the acquisition of FeedHenry combined with additional mobile services and products from Red Hat’s JBoss Middleware and OpenShift portfolio.
The platform is designed to simplify and accelerate the development, integration, deployment and management of mobile solutions.
Cathal McGloin, VP, Mobile Platforms, Red Hat, said: "The Red Hat Mobile Application Platform delivers vital mobile capabilities and secure, manageable integration with enterprise systems from a single, trusted, and award winning provider of enterprise middleware, cloud, and mobile solutions."
2. Integrated offering
The company released the latest versions of JBoss Fuse 6.2 and JBoss A-MQ 6.2, with both containing new capabilities to help developers simplify their enterprise application and messaging initiatives.
The latest versions are focusing on three main areas to enhance developer productivity, enhancing connectivity, usability and the Internet of Things.
3. OpenStack Collaboration
Red Hat, NetApp and Cisco are collaborating to deliver an enterprise-grade OpenStack converged infrastructure.
Sean Cohen, principal product manager, Red Hat, wrote: "Red Hat has been collaborating closely with NetApp on enhancements to OpenStack, and integrating features and functions with Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform.
"Cisco Validated Design (CVD) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform will be available on FlexPod Datacenter is designed to provide enterprise class, high-availability OpenStack IaaS deployment suitable for Tier-1 applications and workloads."
4. Ramping up OpenStack adoption
Focusing on the enterprise and its adoption of OpenStack, the company has been working with Intel to develop the deployment and operation of OpenStack Clouds through the extension of On-Ramp capabilities.
Radhesh Balakrishnan, GM, OpenStack, Red Hat, wrote: "Intel and Red Hat’s On-ramp activities seek to alleviate the problems with traditional workloads on OpenStack by building high availability features into Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform.
"With these new features, cloud operators can evacuate hosts that are impacted by hardware failures or scheduled for hardware upgrade. They can also simply move workloads to consolidate host usage. They can do this via automated recovery of the virtual machine workloads, reducing the impact on end users and their applications."
5. Open Standards
The company has got involved with the Open Container Project. The project is designed to establish a common, open container format and runtime standard.
The move reaffirms the company’s commitment to open standards within Linux container, but also the need for open standards in this space.
Lars Herrmann, GM, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and container strategy, wrote: "We see Red Hat’s role in the open source community as one of not only contributing code and implementing customer requirements, but also as a driver of the open standards necessary for sustainable interoperability in the many projects we participate in."
6. Strategic Alliance
A strategic alliance with Samsung Electronics America will aim to deliver mobile solutions that enable the rapid development and integration of enterprise applications. This comes as part of the move for organisations that are heading towards a mobile-first strategy.
The companies will jointly develop a series of industry-specific mobile business apps, such as field and customer service, inventory management and business intelligence.
These will run on the Red Hat infrastructure and will be optimised for Samsung devices.
