Red Hat, a provider of open source offerings, has announced that telecom company NTT Communications has expanded its use of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the platform for its cloud computing and hosting service offering, Biz Hosting Basic. NTT is also offering Red Hat Enterprise products through the cloud solution.
The two companies first partnered in April 2010 when NTT became a Red Hat Premier Certified Cloud Provider. NTT has now expanded the partnership by selecting Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, based on Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) technology, as the foundational virtualisation layer for its cloud, and offered Red Hat Enterprise Linux as a guest operating system on the Biz Hosting Basic service.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux guests are also now available to NTT customers, offering enterprise-grade security, scalability and services consistent with what on-premise customers of Red Hat receive, said the company.
NTT Communications Business Network Services Division Ubiquitous Communication Department director Mamoru Murakami said Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization was selected as the foundation for their cloud service because of its high availability, reliability, security and scalability.
Murakami said, "We have seen such success with this deployment with our cloud service that we’ve greatly expanded our use of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to further leverage the solution’s performance, security and scalability in an effort to provide an ideal cloud solution to our customers."
Red Hat Cloud Business vice-president and general manager Scott Crenshaw said Red Hat Enterprise Linux has become an important security construct on Biz Hosting Basic.
Crenshaw said, "NTT Communications’ expanded use of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization also signals its strength as a foundation for cloud deployments. We look forward to continuing to help NTT Communications and its cloud customers innovate with cloud technology based on Red Hat solutions."
