Hosting vendor Rackspace has announced the availability of Rackspace Cloud 2.0 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The new apps will allow IT admins to manage their Rackspace Cloud deployments and customise OpenStack clouds when away from the office, the company says.

Rackspace Cloud Servers and Cloud Files can also be managed through the app and multiple accounts can be supported. Users can also connect up to UK and US clouds.

"With the Rackspace Cloud we have helped organisations around the world achieve business agility through flexible computing. The coupling of cloud and the explosion of smart devices, empower organisations to manage their service in a more efficient manner be that the in the office, the beach or airport departure lounge," said Stuart Simms, vice president of Cloud at Rackspace.

The new app is a total re-write of the firm’s previous mobile offerings and rather than separate apps for Apple’s devices new features and updates can be pushed to all iOS devices at the same time, the company said.

Access to clouds via the app can be password protected to stop unauthorised users gaining control and it also features a data wipe feature that wipes all account data after ten failed log-in attempts.

The Rackspace Cloud 2.0 app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch is available to download now via iTunes.
