Rackspace customers will now be able to deliver websites or web applications on a global scale through on-demand access to the Akamai Intelligent Platform.

The result of a partnership between Rackspace and Content Delivery Network (CDN) company Akamai Technologies, the new Rackspace CDN is capable of reducing the load on servers by shifting the content closer to users around the world.

With its CDN, Rackspace customers will also be able to chalk out worldwide presence without hefty investment on infrastructure.

The company highlighted that during the early access programme, Rackspace CDN specialists provisioned 300 customers in less than 24 hours.

Rackspace CDN customers will be able to turn on the service within Rackspace Cloud Control Panel or through REST API without having to wait for ticket requests or professional services to help out.

Users will be able to interact with Rackspace CDN through REST API and other SDKs in Ruby, PHP, Java, node.js, Python.

The CDN is capable of accelerating an entire site and will also allow users to use their own domain while serving over https.

Rackspace infrastructure SVP Steve Crusenberry said: "The integration of Akamai’s CDN into our cloud platform allows us to create an on demand, utility-based, content delivery solution, which expands the Rackspace managed cloud portfolio.

"As more of our customers focus on the performance of their digital platform, our new CDN solution will give them a faster, more reliable way to deliver website content to their customers across the world."
