The Business Intelligence market has a new competitor in the form of AWS, which entered the fray with QuickSight.
The service will be powered by the AWS cloud and has been pitched at costing one-tenth of traditional BI solutions.
QuickSight uses what AWS calls a Super-fast, Parallel, In-memory Calculation Engine (SPLICE), to perform advanced calculations and to render visualisations.
The service will automatically integrate with the company’s data services and aims to deliver fast query performance.
It works by automatically discovering the users data sets stored in AWS services, it then formats the data and moves it to SPICE so it can be visualised.
QuickSight uses columnar storage, in-memory technology, machine code generation and data compression to allow users to run interactive queries on large datasets.
Pricing for the service starts at $9 per user per month.
