Object and XML database company Poet Software Inc is going the whole hog and writing a Java object database. It already provides Java connectivity to its database and will target the new offering at the embedded market. Phone-maker and equipment manufacturer LM Ericsson AB is Poet’s first taker for the database, codenamed Navajo, which will be available next spring. Alpha versions have already shipped. Poet says it will run in less than 200Kb RAM. It will offer extensions for doing two-phase commit and will offer support for XML. It will run in any JVM and will compete against the likes of Object Design Inc and Cloudscape Inc.
