Orion Energy Systems has started using the Windows Azure platform to host InteLite, a sensor-and-control offering designed to help Orion customers save energy and control lighting costs.

The use of Windows Azure platform will enable building managers to view energy-consumption data from multiple facilities on the platform, while providing Orion with savings each year in hardware, labour and maintenance costs, said Microsoft.

Orion Energy Systems chief technology officer Jason Young said with Windows Azure, they are giving their customers access to all their data at a competitive price point.

"We’re taking the money we would have invested in server space and putting those funds directly into product research and innovation for our customers," Young said.

Microsoft Windows Azure director of product marketing Prashant Ketkar said companies like Orion have discovered the benefits of cloud computing for themselves and for customers.

"Orion is using Windows Azure in a way that empowers customers to access aggregated energy consumption data, analyse it and gain powerful new insights."
