Oracle has introduced the new distributed in-memory data grid product, Coherence 3.7, which simplifies the configuration and management of large-scale deployments and provides customers with data storage capabilities and intelligent and dynamic load balancing of client connections.

The new Elastic Data feature of Oracle Coherence 3.7 introduces technology that enables organisations to leverage both memory and disk-based devices for data grid storage, enabling near memory speed access to data, regardless of storage medium and flexibility in capacity and resource planning, said the company.

In addition, the new Coherence 3.7 introduces dynamic load balancing and automatic proxy discovery for CoherenceExtend clients, including application servers or desktop applications accessing the Oracle Coherence data grid, allowing customers to intelligently distribute and manage client connections, while also simplifying the configuration of large-scale environments.

Through integration with F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager and SSL Acceleration technologies, Coherence 3.7 allows users to leverage components of their existing infrastructure to secure, optimise and load balance application traffic generated from Coherence Extend clients across any number of servers in a cluster and to hardware-accelerate the related CPU-intensive SSL encryption, said the company.

The Coherence 3.7 introduces native integration with the company’s GlassFish Server via the CoherenceWeb SPI for GlassFish, providing ‘no code change’ installation and configuration of CoherenceWeb, making it easier for GlassFish Server users to scale their applications.

The new Coherence 3.7 is a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g and is integrated with the other products in Oracle’s middleware stack. Further, Coherence is also part of Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.

Oracle development vice-president Cameron Purdy said as organisations increase the scale of client-based applications, reducing complexity becomes integral in deploying, supporting and managing these environments.

"The new Elastic Data capability, dynamic load balancing, automatic proxy discovery and F5 integration features in Oracle Coherence 3.7 help simplify this process by allowing customers to better leverage their existing infrastructure and providing greater flexibility in capacity and resource planning," Purdy said.
