Novell has reported net revenues of $204m for the second fiscal quarter of 2010, down 5.4% compared to net revenues of $215m for the same period last year.

The company posted an operating income of $20m for the second quarter, compared to $18m in the same period last year.

For the second fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2010, the company posted a net income of $20m, an increase of 28%, compared to net income of $16m in the same period last year.

Novell has reported software licenses revenue of $28m, a decrease from $30.2m for the same period last year, while maintenance and subscriptions revenues decreased to $154m and $22m from $158m and $27m, respectively.

Ron Hovsepian, president and CEO of Novell, said: “We are experiencing good strategic momentum with the execution of our intelligent workload management strategy. As customers increasingly adopt virtualisation and cloud computing models, they need tools to help them securely manage and optimize their computing resources.

“Since announcing our strategy, we have shipped several products to help customers build, secure, manage and measure workloads. In addition, we are very excited about the new partnerships we have forged with several service providers to extend Novell’s reach into the market.”

Novell expects net revenue to be between $205m and $210m in the third fiscal quarter of 2010.
