Nokia has launched the AirFrame Data Center Solution, a localised solution designed to help telcos move operations to the Cloud.

The 5G-ready solution uses data centre technology from Intel to address the latency and processing power requirements of telcos implementing a comprehensive telco cloud architecture. Mobile operators can spread data centre functions across their networks to allow customer data to be handled locally.

According to Nokia, AirFrame contains pre-integrated racks with dense servers, high-performance switches and software-defined storage. It also comes with professional services provided by the company’s services experts.

It is able to run the most common IT cloud applications in parallel to the telco cloud. Nokia also claims that operators could use the solution to expand into new areas of operation, such as offering data centre capacity for customers’ IT applications.

The solution is available now.

Sandra Rivera, Vice President and General Manager, Network Platforms Group, Intel, said: "We’re pleased to support Nokia Networks on its path to provide a data center solution that fulfils the most demanding requirements of the telco cloud environment.

"We believe that combining Intel‘s leading processors and virtualisation technologies with Nokia Networks’ deep knowledge of the telecommunications market will accelerate adoption for cloud technologies deployed by leading operators worldwide."

Marc Rouanne, Executive Vice President, Mobile Broadband, Nokia Networks, said: "We are taking on the IT-telco convergence with a new solution to challenge the traditional IT approach of the data centre.

"This newest solution brings telcos carrier-grade high availability, security-focused reliability as well as low latency, while leveraging the company’s deep networks expertise and strong business with operators to address an increasingly cloud-focused market valued in the tens of billions of euros."
