Cloud service provider (CSPs) and software-defined storage (SDS) vendor environments can now benefit from up to 1.6TB of usable storage with SanDisk’s new CloudSpeed Ultra Gen. II SATA SSD.

Designed to answer demanding mixed-use, latency-sensitive transactional workloads, SanDisk claims that the new cloud-focused flash SSD offers unmatched price/performance leadership at a little over $0.04 per IOPS versus $3.50 per IOPS found with conventional SATA HDDs.

The CloudSpeed Ultra Gen. II also serves up to 32,000 4K write IOPS with 530MB/sec throughput, and an 80 microseconds random read write latency – delivering 99.9 percent quality of service (QoS).

Often, CSPs having to meet SLAs will utilise hundreds of SSDs in compute clusters to enable the elastic cloud infrastructures needed to handle low-latency, high-performing NoSQL analytics, online transaction processing and collaborative applications.

The era of the cloud has complicated this further, with CSPs having to couple massive numbers of HDDs with enhancement schemes to meet the demands of today’s cloud apps. The CloudSpeed Ultra Gen. II is SanDisk’s simplified answer to today’s cloud storage demands.

CloudSpeed Ultra Gen. II SSD will be available for select CSP and SDS customers in August and on a staggered channel release through the Enterprise Channel Partner program.
