IBM has announced that Marriott Hotels is adopting IBM Cloud technology, with the technology expected to help Marriott offer faster digital services to web-savvy guests and to discern insights from the company’s 4,000 properties.

The hospitality industry is facing challenges in retaining customer loyalty, meeting the needs of next generation travellers, growing the brands reputation and increasing revenues.

Marriott will migrate a significant portion of its core IT systems and applications to IBM’s open cloud platform over the next few years.

The SoftLayer IaaS will provide a flexible platform which reduces the need for on-site IT support, while upgrading to the IBM cloud solution will enable faster deployment of new Marriott digital capabilities.

As part of the agreement, IBM will provide Managed DevOps Services and deploy analytics, SaaS, and Big Insights.

Robert LeBlanc, Senior Vice President, IBM Cloud, said: "Industry leaders stay ahead by moving to the next paradigm ahead of competitors. Through our powerful enterprise cloud platform and ability to integrate it seamlessly with existing on-premises technology, IBM is enabling Marriott’s transformation and global expansion."

Bruce Hoffmeister, Global Chief Information Officer, Marriott International, said: "Marriott continually transforms its technology to ensure we provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for guests throughout their entire stay."

"IBM Cloud provides the analytics to see early-stage data patterns and the scale and flexibility to enable timely, innovative new services that will meet guests’ expectations in a predominantly digital world."

IBM has also announced a number of other deployments of its software, Softlayer platform and cloud services. Opera Software has deployed its web browser on bare metal servers in IBM’s Singapore cloud centre, while data management company Sohonet announced that it is offering IBM’s Cloud Softlayer platform to its network of film and media companies.

IBM is also working with Kallo to deploy its remote health care delivery system using IBM cloud.
