Software provider Infor has taken the wraps off its next-generation cloud applications suite in what it says could be the company’s biggest step forward yet.

Speaking at the company’s Inforum event in New Orleans, CEO Charles Phillips unveiled Infor Xi, the latest version of the company’s technology platform.

"This is a platform that allows us to build the next generation of modern applications," Phillips said.

Building on its current Infor 10x platform, originally released in 2013, Infor XI look to provide the tools needed to help develop cloud-based applications targeting specific industry needs, offering responsive, mobile-first design with machine-learning and big data analytics.

The company says that Infor Xi offers a major upgrade on its predecessor, not least in its support for open source systems, which will help improve performance, boost scale, and reduce costs. It will leverage Amazon Web Services’ cloud infrastructure to allow customers to take advantage of Amazon’s expertise and economies of scale.

Infor Xi also includes a new focus on mobile, as the company looks to emphasise the use of real-time data and big data analytics into this platform. Applications built using Infor Xi will be engineered to publish standard application programming interfaces (APIs) that will further enable Infor to gather this data and gain valuable insight on user experience.

"Modern technologies like the cloud, big data, machine-learning, and mobility have created new and exciting engines for innovation and increased the pressure on companies to stay current and competitive," said Duncan Angove, president of Infor.

"Infor has spent more than a billion dollars in research and development that will culminate in Infor Xi-powered applications that will help our customers stay ahead of the game in today’s rapidly-evolving global business climate."

Infor says it is delivering some elements of Infor Xi now, with a full roll out of the platform out across its product suites, including its Infor CloudSuiteTM industry suites, enterprise resource planning (ERP), enterprise asset management (EAM), human capital management (HCM), customer relationship management (CRM), and supply chain management (SCM), soon.
