IceWEB, a provider of Unified Data Storage and building blocks for cloud storage networks, has launched IceWEB 3000 Storage Systems with Solid State Drive (SSD) technology.
According to the company, the new storage system is ideal for ultra-high performance, I/O intensive applications, the IceWEB SS-3000HP-2.4SS contains 12 SSDs and can be expanded by the IceWEB DS-500HC-3.2SS Disk Shelf containing 16 SSDs.
The company said that each 200GB SSD delivers over 30,000 read I/Os per second (IOPS), for an 360,000 IOPS for the IceWEB 3000 appliance.
SSDs can be combined with any other drive type (SAS or SATA) within the array, and performance storage pools can be created with the SSDs alongside disk-based pools, claims the company.
An SSD storage pool can include iSCSI volumes, Fibre Channel LUNs, and NFS/CIFS file shares in any combination. SSDs are typically less susceptible to physical shock, quieter, and have lower access time and latency.
The company claims each IceWEB 3000 supports up to two 10GbE or two 8Gb Fibre Channel network connections, which is sufficient to support over 40 SSDs at maximum IOPS rates to ensure sufficient bandwidth.
IceWEB VP of product marketing and alliances Dave Glatfelter said with the ability to mix and match drives, the IceWEB 3000 can accommodate any performance/capacity mix needed in today’s virtualised environments.
