IBM said that it has acquired privately held Intelliden, a provider of intelligent network automation software that enables organisations such as telecommunications companies to configure, manage and scale their networks.
Intelliden provides network automation offerings, which allow enterprises to automate the configuration of manually managed network devices such as hubs, routers and switches from various vendors. These offerings also can automate an array of network services that are important to virtual and cloud-based applications.
By acquiring the automation technology, IBM aims to help clients improve network service availability, decrease risk through compliance reporting and improve staff efficiency.
IBM expects the acquisition to strengthen its service management portfolio by providing comprehensive offerings for automation and optimisation of digital and physical assets. This includes full-service lifecycle management of network devices, IT, data centre and physical assets as diverse as water mains, railway cars and even door locks.
Up on completion of the transaction, Intelliden technology will be integrated into IBM Tivoli Software, which produced revenue growth of 7% for 2009.
