IBM has signed an agreement with Audi to build a cloud environment for Audi’s SAP infrastructure.
Under the agreement, IBM will enable Audi to deliver enhanced performance, fast and flexible provisioning of SAP applications and capacities at lower infrastructure costs.
Audi will also deliver above-average energy efficiency with the ability to enlarge future SAP applications to an almost unlimited extent.
In April 2010, Audi signed a contract with IBM to rebuild their existing SAP infrastructure, including consolidation and virtualisation of the server hardware, process standardisation, opportunities for performance-related billing and a higher operational flexibility.
IBM said that Audi’s new SAP Infrastructure offering is based on its new generation of high-performance POWER 7 Servers and database technology (DB2).
Audi IT infrastructure services head Lorenz Schoberl said along with a very high level of reliability and failure safety, the new SAP Infrastructure offering, which we will migrate into a private cloud, substantially lowering energy consumption.
"The DB2 offering’s built-in data compression capability will enable us to save time and reduce costs of storage and archiving," Schoberl said.
IBM said that the new infrastructure is fully operational and will be managed by it in a private cloud environment hosted in Audi’s data centre.
