IBM is continuing to strengthen its consulting business with the acquisition of Bluewolf Group.

Bluewolf which is a consulting company that specialises in helping businesses to use Salesforce, in addition to other cloud software applications, is expected to be bought by Big Blue for around $200m, Re/Code reported.

IBM has been busy with a number of acquisitions in 2016 having just acquired Optevia, a UK company specialising in offering Microsoft Dynamics CRM solutions for public sector organisations. Earlier in the year the company acquired Resource/Ammirati in a move to boost its digital practice.

The acquisition of Bluewolf marks another move in the field to provide consulting services around Salesforce technology. In September last year Accenture acquired Cloud Sherpas, a company which provides consulting services to Salesforce and Google services.

The appeal for IBM appears to be Salesforce’s positioning as a core component in many businesses digital transformation.

With businesses focused on customising Salesforce and integrating it with other systems, there is a demand specialist advice which the likes of Bluewolf can provide.

Bluewolf’s UK MD, Vera Loftis, recently spoke to CBR about how exactly Bluewolf fits inside the Salesforce ecosystem and Loftis saying that the company wants to double business size by 2018. The full article can be read here.

Bluewolf is expected to join the IBM Interactive Experience unit of Big Blue’s global services arm which works with offerings from the likes of Salesforce, SAP and others.

Founded in 2000, the San Francisco based Bluewolf is almost entirely devoted to helping companies deploy and more effectively use Salesforce and has now worked with around 9,500 companies.

The acquisition heavy start to the year for IBM comes as its CEO Ginni Rometty has been working to move the company from a hardware specialist into one that also specialises in business software and services.

This is highlighted by the acquisitions of cloud video hosting service UStream and the acquisition of the Weather Company.

IBM’s acquisition of Bluewolf is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016.
