IBM has been named as the most popular provider of hosted private cloud.
More than twice as many firms are using IBM, or plan to use it as their primary hosted private cloud platform, with nearly twice as many planning to use the company when implementing multiple vendor cloud solutions’. This is compared to the next closest competitor.
According to the report from Forrester, the top drivers in choosing to adopt a hosted private cloud include a desire for improved IT infrastructure and flexibility, lower total cost of ownership for servers, on-demand capacity and scalability and also improved disaster recovery and business continuity.
Despite these perceived benefits of choosing a private cloud solution, one of the key concerns was seen as being vendor lock-in. The report found that standards such as OASIS’s TOSCA and open source projects like OpenStack have provided hope of less lock-in and a greater adherence to standards.
These findings come from Forrester in the report, "Adoption Profile: Hosted Private Cloud, North America and Europe, Q3 2014," which was based on a survey of 2,255 business and technology decision-makers.
