Rubrik has raised $41 million in its Series B funding round, with Greylock Partners taking the lead.

The small company of just 40 employees and 20 early access customers was launched 15 months ago, but has already raised $51 million in that time.

Rubrik has developed a hybrid cloud and on-premises backup solution based on hardware which it calls the r300 Hybrid Cloud Appliance. It is designed to help companies manage backup across on-premises data centres and public cloud storage.

What the company offers with this solution is policy setting, deduplication and search which are standard for this type of hardware. What sets it apart though is the zero-time restores, this means that users can request a file stored in the cloud and get it back without latency.

This is done by moving data from the appliance to the cloud fully indexed so that it is searchable, the search tool then finds it and then users can move a single file from the cloud instantly.

The investment in the company is set to be put towards expanding its go-to market ability and to scale its offering.

Bipul Sinha, CEO, Rubrik, is a former partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners who also invested in the company.
