Chinese telecoms giant Huawei is planning to launch its video aggregation service in European markets by the end of this year.

The service offers the latest regional and international video content and apps from across the world.

Huawei had already launched the technology in the Middle East and China, where the telco-partnered, over-the-top (OTT) service is being streamed by 8 million TV subscribers.

The service will include around 20,000 hours of movies and TV series; better video experience and features; stable and advanced platform support; and cloud-computing technologies based on open platforms.

It will reach end users through either Huawei’s distribution channel or those of the telcos partnering with the company.

Huawei established a smart video cloud centre in the UK to the build a European digital video ecsystem with the cooperation of telcos and its local, as well as global, partners.

Huawei vice-president of carrier software Yiming Cao said: "To test market reaction in Europe, we are planning to launch the service phase by phase.

"In an initial stage, we will focus on OTT Video, the app being available in IoS and Android smartphones, offering excellent experiences to meet European users’ needs."

Huawei is also planning to introduce games to the market from its partners in 2016.

Cao said: "We are aware that a large number of European users are also keen to play games on TV, since a bigger screen can definitely enable a better experience, especially during action or strategy games."

A new tool is being introduced to convert majority of mobile games to fit several TV screens with minor development efforts from game vendors. Huawei is also allowing users to play the game on the TV through a smartphone.
