Huawei and PLUMgrid have partnered to automate OpenStack for SDN and NFV with the Compass open source project.
The companies will upstream open source automation software to StackForge that automatically installs PLUMgrid Open Networking Suite (ONS) via Huawei Compass.
The move will allow operators to accelerate and reduce time to production for implementing OpenStack cloud infrastructures.
The private virtual domains offered by PLUMgrid ONS will separate tenant traffic for security and policy enforcements.
Every virtual domain will address the problems of each tenant or application by running a set of virtual network functions, customised and configured through service chaining.
Huawei president of cloud computing product line Zhipeng Ren said: "By open-sourcing Compass to the OpenStack community, we’ve provided powerful deployment network technology that is easily extensible to a variety of data center and cloud environments.
"Our partnership with PLUMgrid to add the deployment of a proven and powerful SDN and NFV platform via Compass is a win for the OpenStack community and to operators of OpenStack clouds everywhere."
The Compass project offers deployment-as-a-service for bare metal machines and topology-aware OpenStack service deployment.
It also includes a set of RESTful APIs, allowing operators to discover, configure and manage hardware and software-based resources to stand up OpenStack clouds.
