HP has said that it will build and lease a next-generation data centre in Waikato district, New Zealand.

The new data centre is designed to provide IT resources to help organisations simplify applications, improve business process, and increase operational efficiency and reliability.

The new facility will provide cloud computing services, application modernisation and data centre transformation services.

The new data centre features include an architecture based on the company’s Converged infrastructure that meets changing business needs; and support for variable power and cooling densities to manage computing requirements of today and the future at industry-leading energy efficiency.

In addition, the automated management built on HP’s software tools is claimed to increase availability, speed of provisioning and improved service quality, said the company.

HP said that the new data centre is coupled with the existing Mt. Wellington data centre in Auckland, an Active/Active configuration, which enables concurrent systems to run with real-time synchronisation between the sites.

HP New Zealand enterprise services country manager Gavin Greaves said enterprises need the agility to adjust to dynamic market and community demands for fast, innovative services.

"Having a sustainable infrastructure that combines a modern platform with the services capability of HP Enterprise Services means customers can concentrate more on their business and less on managing their IT," Greaves said.

The company expects the new data centre in New Zealand to be operational by early 2012.
