HP and Alcatel-Lucent have partnered on new networking solutions for enterprises adopting and providing data centres and cloud solutions.

HP Networking has adopted the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router as part of its wide area network router portfolio.

Alcatel-Lucent has also integrated its industry-leading 1830 Photonics Services Switch optical platform into HP’s portfolio. This can be combined with the HP 3PAR Remote Copy software to provide, Alcatel-Lucent claims, synchronous replication over fiber up to 130 kilometers with encryption.

These solutions, available as part of the HP Complete Program, aim to help enterprises provide data explosion, security and storage functions by allowing secure, synchronous replication over fiber up to 130 kilometers with encryption to reduce business risk.

They focus on facilitating business continuity, disaster recovery, secure data transport, data center interconnect and remote copy applications.

They can also be combined with HPs Distributed Cloud Networking solution to enable automatic creation of data centre network services and policies, which uses Alcatel-Lucent’s Virtualized Services Platform from its Nuage Networks SDN venture.

The aim is to address challenges faced by enterprises and service providers in scalability and flexibility, as well as management of the data centre gateway.

Basil Alwan, President IP Routing and Transport, Alcatel-Lucent: "Our strong networking experience in building world-class IP and optical networks gives us unique expertise in providing technology that can meet the rigorous demands and needs of enterprises who are transforming their operations to a cloud environment.

"Working with HP allows us to blend our highly synergistic portfolios and expertise to give customers new ideas and choices that fit their complex and specific needs."

Alcatel-Lucent also announced this week that its purchase by Nokia has been approved by its French Group Committee. It will also provide 100G optical technology to Telecom Italia for its ultra-broadband Internet and TV services.
