Google has launched a new service designed to make troubleshooting easy by consolidating all the logs for user applications built on its cloud platform, into one place.
The Google Cloud Logging service is available in beta at no charge. This service will aggregate all the logs generated by Google Compute and Google Apps Engine, into one place.
Deepak Tiwari, Product Manager, made the announcement on the Google blog. Of its functionality he wrote: "The Logs Viewer lets you quickly investigate and debug issues, correlate logs between different services and find the root cause of an outage."
"You can filter logs using the drop-down menu and the filter bar, stream logs in real-time ("tail -f") and navigate through your log timeline without awkward next/previous page buttons."
Google Compute Engine on its own produces large amounts of logs, as does Google App Engine, so the ability to search all log files at once will likely be a tool that is welcomed.
Google stores that log data for 30 days, however users can choose to move the data to Google Cloud Storage for a more long term solution.
