Networking firm Extreme Networks has introduced several enhancements to its portfolio of SDN applications for data centres, clouds, mobile carrier networks and campuses.
The company will enhance its ExtremeXOS-based Ethernet switch portfolio by providing OpenFlow support which will support multiple OpenFlow controllers including NEC and BigSwitch.
Enabling OpenFlow support across its line of Ethernet network switches will help application developers to build SDN applications for campus, cloud and carrier networks using an ExtremeXOS powered framework.
By supporting multiple controllers, Extreme Networks offers customers a set of choices when it comes to their SDN deployment.
Extreme Networks will introduce a plug-in for OpenStack to manage network switches using the Quantum APIs.
The company will also provide a new application and knowledge base portal called xKIT for sharing SDN applications, enabling customers and application developers to address evolving network challenges.
Extreme Networks Technology Strategy vice president Shehzad Merchant said an SDN approach that provides network abstraction, centralised intelligence and programmability is fundamental to addressing the challenges associated with mobility, cloud sourcing and the consumerisation of IT.
"The benefits of SDN are applicable across the cloud, campus and carrier networks," Merchant said.
