Equinix is to begin offering both direct and private access to the Salesforce platform via the Equinix Cloud Exchange across markets in North America and Europe.
The purpose of direct access to Salesforce is to enable customers to connect to all the benefits to its platform with the control and predictability of a dedicated connection.
The direct connections are to be made available across Salesforce’s Customer Success Platform, as well as Chatter, Sales Cloud, App Cloud, Service Cloud, Force.com, Communities, Work.com, Wave Analytics, Government Cloud and Health Cloud.
All connections are said to present enterprise customers with high performance and application reliability while meeting regulatory and compliance concerns typically associated with cloud deployments in industries such as government and healthcare.
As the adoption of cloud continues to grow, more enterprises are moving to cloud-based applications and services. It is also expected that almost half of all new business software purchases will be of service-enabled software and cloud software will constitute more than a quarter of all software purchases by 2020, according to IDC.

Although, companies within heavily regulated industries like healthcare and financial services, seem to continually face compliance and regulatory concerns regarding the adoption of cloud-based applications. This is why Equinix decided to offer direct access to Salesforce applications. It offers reliable connections without the inherent control and security concerns of the public internet.
Bill Long, Vice President, Interconnection Solutions, Equinix said: “Salesforce has a strong foothold in the enterprise market as a leader in business and CRM applications. For certain customers, an all-public cloud solution comes with its regulatory concerns.
“But, by providing these customers with dedicated connectivity to their Salesforce environments simply, securely and cost-effectively from Cloud Exchange, we help them connect and build a hybrid cloud solution that works for them.”
Equinix already offers direct connections to platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform via its Cloud Exchange of Cross Connects.
The solution to connect customers to the Salesforce platform is now available in select Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres.
