A majority of IT and business executives in the US and Europe have a strong commitment to shift to digital business model despite security concerns and execution challenges, according to a survey.
A survey by Unisys showed cloud computing as key enabler to adopt digital business model.
However, the study has found security concerns and tepid execution are standing on the way of organisations to shift to new business model.
The survey conducted for Unisys by IDG Research polled 175 executives in both the region on the steps being taken by their firm to capitalize on the convergence of social, cloud, mobility, data analytics, internet of things (IoT) and security.
Nearly 72% of the participants in the survey agreed that it is “critical or very important” for an organization to modify IT processes and resources to support a digital business model.
The executives see cloud computing as the linchpin in an IT infrastructure that enables digital business.
The respondents have said that over 50% of their organizations' applications are already deployed in a cloud environment.
Besides, the participants indicated positive results for their organisations from initial cloud and digital initiatives.
According to the survey, the organisations have seen improvements over the last 12 months in multiple areas, including data security (56%), user experience with applications and services (44%), IT efficiency (42%) and infrastructure performance/availability (41%).
But a small percentage of respondents indicated that their organisations currently have the "extremely flexible/nimble" attributes needed to implement a digital model.
Unisys cloud and infrastructure services vice president said: “This research points the way for organisations to become more nimble and successful in capitalising on present and future business challenges.
"Digital business is all about finding innovative ways to empower workers and customers. The organisations that will prosper in the new order are those that most quickly become focused, proficient and flexible in integrating and securing the cloud, IoT and other key digital technologies to drive new levels of service."
The study showed 88% executives citing data security in the cloud as a top priority for competitiveness in the digital space.
While nearly 59% of respondents, who identify their organisations as extremely nimble, said that they have seen improved data security, 56% of the same group sees improved speed of business decision-making.
In another survey conducted recently by Unisys, 72% of the survey respondents in the US said that their organisations' CIO is spearheading movement to the cloud.
