Hosted virtual desktop software supplier Desktone Inc has hooked up with Dutch cloud services provider CloudGroup BV and the SCC arm of the SCH UK-based services group to launch a desktops-as-a-service (DaaS) offering across Europe.

CloudGroup said it would target telecommunications and service providers with ‘a simple, fast way to enable new value-added services around desktop virtualisation for their customers.’

Desktone’s DaaS is used to provision desktop images between corporate data centres and a managed service providers’ hosting facility.

The company said that by using a Desktone-powered cloud-based solution, instead of building and deploying virtual desktops themselves, enterprises can reduce desktop costs by up to 35%.

Savings come from the multi-tenancy and multi-data centre features of Desktone’s Virtual D-Platform, which enables service providers to scale and operate a cloud service at attractive price points.

The DaaS service from Cloud Group, which is available now, is based on a subscription-based pricing model per user desktop delivered per month, with no upfront cost.

The proposal is that telecoms operators can provide virtual desktop infrastructure services to enterprise organisations without them having to build and deploy a VDI solution internally.

Desktone already has partnerships with service providers in North America and Japan, but this is the first time its footprint has reached the European market.
