Dell has introduced its third gen of microservers, the PowerEdge C5000 series – C5125 and C5220.

The new microservers series meets the demands for building shared and cloud computing infrastructures that allows apps to run on individual dedicated physical servers.

The new PowerEdge C5000 series are specifically designed for use cases where multi-core CPU architecture and extensive virtualisation are overkill.

Dell said that the new PowerEdge C5125 and C5220 are optimised for dedicated and virtualised IT hosting and Web 2.0 environments where power and density is critical.

The new microservers series features eight to 12 individual server nodes in one 3U chassis; utilises a shared infrastructure model that allows users to save on space, energy, racks and cabling; and achieves up to four times more density while being up to 75% less to cool than other company servers.

The offerings also features 4 x DDR3 UDIMMS, 2 x 3.5-inch or 4 x 2.5-inch HDDs, 2 x GbE ports, IPMI 2.0 management, iKVM, individually serviceable nodes, and a shared power and cooling infrastructure.

IDC senior research analyst Reuben Miller said the new microserver series, through a shared infrastructure and energy efficient design, helps customers maximise their IT environments while helping them adapt to change with a highly modular and serviceable design.
