A new survey has revealed that 59% of IT decision makers believe that more than half of their infrastructure will be cloud-based by 2017.
The survey, from Adapt, also asked how much of their IT infrastructure would be in the cloud in two years’ time – surprisingly it was found that 40% still plan to provision IT through a non-cloud environment.
The report suggests that this represents a balanced approach from IT decision makers when it comes to infrastructure. However, nearly 30% predicted that 75-100% of their infrastructure will be in the cloud in two years.
Kevin Linsell, Director of Strategy and Architecture at Adapt, said: "It’s clear that businesses intend to continue balancing multiple infrastructure environments over the coming years to retain the flexibility and control they need to meet their business needs."
"Our flagship ‘Habitat’ approach to application hosting is a great example of how we as a service provider are supporting that requirement for agility, enabling businesses to blend cloud and non-cloud environments within the same managed service."
According to Adapt, the ‘hype cycle’ has come to an end which has resulted in companies being able to truly assess the relevance and benefits of cloud.
Adapt states that the external pressures of compliance and regulation may inhibit cloud adoption in some sectors, while cyber security will remain a point of focus for businesses.
The survey was carried out at Cloud Expo in London and asked 158 attendees.
