Cisco is set to leverage Docker’s new enterprise offering with the two companies teaming up to deliver container capabilities for application-centric data centres and cloud.
The partnership follows Docker’s earlier launch of Docker Enterprise Edition (EE), a new commercial platform which gives enterpises an open container platform to build, run, and operate applications. The new Docker EE establishes the foundation for a Containers as a Service (CaaS) model that becomes the framework for an enterprise software supply chain where any applications (traditional and microservices) can be managed centrally and uniformly across any infrastructure.
Cisco enters the picture with its Unified Computing System (UCS) and Converged Infrastructure solution, with the alliance struck by the two companies hoping to deliver unified solutions for the entire application journey – be it containerising traditional applications, refactoring applications to microservices, or creating new applications.
Thanks to the tie-up, customers can run Docker EE with Docker Datacenter on Cisco UCS, providing application developers a seamless way to deploy, iterate, re-deploy, and monitor applications onto production infrastructure.
