Cisco has linked up with broadband provider Charter Communications to supply its key products for Charter’s upcoming video system.
The networking firm, which is a main provider of set-top boxes, will provide its cloud-based security suite and digital rights management (DRM) technology to support video services on IP devices for Charter’s Worldbox.
Charter’s Worldbox acts as a thin client that can be update via cloud software regardless of the set-top box used by customers.
Cisco said it will also supply a share of Charter’s Worldbox volume and CableCARD boxes until Charter moves all its existing systems to an open downloadable security suite this year.

Charter says it is expecting to launch a cloud-based user interface, Spectrum Guide on Worldboxes, as well as on legacy boxes currently deployed within the Charter footprint.
