BMC Software has reported revenues of $562.2m for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011, an increase of 14.4% compared to $491.3m for the same period last year.

License, maintenance and professional services revenue increased to $250.6m, $258.6m and $53m respectively, compared to $201.3m, $254.9m and $35.1m respectively for the previous year quarter.

For the fourth quarter ended 31 March 2011, the company posted an operating income of $141.8m, while total operating expenses for the quarter increased to $420.4m compared to $375.8m for the same quarter previous year.

The company’s net income for the quarter increased marginally by 3.1% to $122.5m, compared to net income of $118.8m for the same period last year.

Net earnings per dilute share increased to $0.67 from $0.64 per dilute share for the corresponding period last year.

For the fiscal year 2011, the company’s revenue, operating income and net earnings increased to $2.1bn, $532.8m, and $456.2m respectively, compared to $1.9bn, $506.1m, and $406.1m for the previous fiscal year.

BMC chairman and CEO Bob Beauchamp said customers are increasingly seeking to build agile, flexible IT infrastructures, whether through cloud computing, SaaS or virtualisation.

"Our ability to meet that demand through the integrated, effective IT management offerings continues to drive our strong momentum," Beauchamp said.

"As we move forward, I believe we will look back on fiscal 2011 as a pivotal year — a year in which BMC transformed from being a strong, moderate growth company to one characterised by sustained, accelerating growth, led by a solid ESM engine capable of delivering ongoing double-digit growth."
