BMC Software has reported revenues of $540m for the third quarter of fiscal year 2011, an increase of 6.3% compared to $508.1m for the same period last year.

License and Professional services revenue increased to $234.6m and $46m while revenue from maintenance decreased by 0.3% to $259.3m in the third quarter.

For the third quarter ended 31 December 2010, the company posted an operating income of $139.4m, while total operating expenses for the quarter increased to $400.5m compared to $360.5m for the same quarter previous year.

The company’s net income for the quarter decreased marginally to $109.1m, a drop of 1.4%, compared to net income of $110.7m for the same period last year.

Net earnings per dilute share increased to $0.60 from $0.59 per dilute share for the corresponding period last year.

BMC chairman and CEO Bob Beauchamp said their service automation, SaaS, and cloud offerings continue to show strong increases in customer demand.

"Our partnerships are enabling us to expand our presence in key markets and at the same time, we remain committed to our on-going strategy of optimising efficiency, productivity and profitability," Beauchamp said.
