Siemens has awarded a six year contract to French IT services provider Atos to build a SAP HANA based cloud platform to meet the company’s business demands.

The platform will be based on bullion, an enterprise high-end x86 server from Bull, and will include EMC hardware and software.

The platform will be deployed to support more than 100,000 Siemens personnel across the world. It is also expected to be one of the largest implementations of the SAP HANA platform.

Siemens is implementing SAP HANA in order to fuel innovation and to introduce more collaborative business model.

The company will also migrate its core business systems and processes from SAP ERP application to SAP HANA.

Atos will be responsible for managing Siemens’ business system and process migration to SAP HANA.

Siemens CIO Norbert Kleinjohann said: "The project is an essential enabler for the new Siemens business vision, providing the environment in which we can innovate to the benefit of our business.

"Atos, as our longstanding IT partner, is perfectly positioned to help us make the transition from SAP ERP to SAP HANA."
