Continued cloud data centre expansion in India is transforming it into a cloud hub.
IBM has opened its second data centre in India, shortly after Microsoft said it has three operating there.
These companies aren’t alone; AWS is another that is expanding its data centre reach with a region in India expected soon.
Expansion across Asia by the cloud giants is gathering pace as US companies seek to reach over 2.6 billion people in India and China combined.
IBM’s latest data centre will be in Chennai.
This isn’t the only move Big Blue is making in the area; it recently brought its Bluemix development platform to China.
Microsoft and AWS both have presence in China and India already but IBM‘s move puts it ahead of Google in the regions. Google is yet to establish an on-the-ground presence in either China or India, in China due to battles with the Chinese government over censorship.
Continuing IBM’s strategy of expansion in the area is its collaboration with software companies in India. The move sees the launch of Techstartup.in, which is a digital hub for the Indian start-up community.
The idea behind this is to grab for developers in the regions, which will help to boost the cloud expansion and adoption.
