Microsoft is strengthening its Power BI analytics capabilities by partnering with Alteryx.

The move sees Alteryx become the first Microsoft Alliance member to deliver analytic workflows that output directly into Power BI.

Behind the move is the desire to provide deeper analytics and data blending capabilities to business analysts.

The announcement comes shortly after AWS moved into the Business Intelligence market, and could be viewed as a way to fend off competition from the cloud provider.

Alteryx Analytics will be deeply integrated into SQL Server 2014, 2012 and 2008. As part of the relationship between the two companies there will future collaboration.

This could include Alteryx Analytics being integrated into components of Azure and the Cortana Analytics Suite.

By using the Alteryx Analytics 10.0 platform, data analysts will be able to blend, model and analyse data for use in Power BI.

The platform is capable of cleansing and transforming data and then performing predictive, statistical and spatial analytics.
