The telecoms firm Alcatel-Lucent has poached former Oracle executive Bhaskar Gorti to lead its IP Platforms team, focusing on development of cloud and software products.
The appointment will continue the firm’s move towards IP, cloud and broadband access, with Gorti’s team working on cloud-based networking, virtualisation, operational support systems, payments and cybersecurity.
Michel Combes, chief executive of Alcatel-Lucent, said: "I am very pleased to welcome Bhaskar, a globally recognised software executive, to lead our IP Platforms business, drive the software transformation of Alcatel-Lucent, and to join my management team at an exciting point as Alcatel-Lucent redefines itself."
"He brings to us tremendous global experience in commercial and technology fields that have a direct relevance on our future, as we increase the proportion of software and virtualised products in our portfolio."
Gorti joins Alcatel-Lucent having served as SVP and GM of the Communications Global Business Unit at the software vendor Oracle, having previously worked at Portal Software where he was chief executive and Hewlett-Packard where he was director of worldwide business development, telecoms and ISPs.
