Cisco has completed its acquisition of OpenDNS and launched its first integrations with the technology.
The acquisition, worth $635 million in cash and assumed equity awards, means that Cisco can now integrate its AMP Threat Grid with OpenDNS Umbrella.
This means that customers of both services can now add malware domains discovered by Threat Grid, which securely sources and analyses malware from a closed community, to Umbrella block lists.
Customers will now have a constantly updating list of newly identified malicious domains, which Umbrella will log or block Internet activity to and from.
In addition to the integration, OpenDNS employees have joined the Cisco Security Business Group, while founder and CEO David Ulevitch becomes vice-president of the division.
"Delivering pervasive security capabilities from the cloud is a core part of our mission to provide Security Everywhere across the extended network from data centre to the cloud to mobile devices." said David Goeckeler, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco Security Business Group.
"By integrating the OpenDNS platform with Cisco’s security solutions, customers will receive greater network visibility and threat intelligence for cloud delivered protection against malicious websites and threats. Together, we will deliver protection that is unmatched in the industry."
