Cisco & Altice speed up the internet taking IoE on board

Partnership will improve broadband bandwidth by up to 10 Gbps fostering adoption of IoE.

By Joao Lima

Cisco and Altice will work together to deploy a converged cable access platform (CCAP) across its multi-country footprint, with the first rollouts set to take place in France.

With Cisco’s help, Altice will be using DOCSIS 3.1 capabilities of the Cisco Evolved CCAP solution to develop its cable access architecture.

The company said, that by using Cisco’s DOCSIS 3.1 Altice could scale the bandwidth offered to its growing broadband customers up to 10 Gbps, across the fiber-deep access network of Numericable-SFR in France, and other operators within the group.

The embedded cloud and SDN-based technologies will enable Altice to foster the adoption of IoE.

Max Blumberg, CTO at Altice Group, said: "This step is part of our long-term investment strategy. We are building the next generation of fixed mobile converged networks. With a combination of Cisco’s Evolved CCAP, DOCSIS 3.1 and migration to NFV/SDN, Altice will continue providing the best customer experience, based on the highest bandwidth and cutting edge technology."

Brett Wingo, VP and GM at Cable Access Business Unit, Cisco, said: "Cisco is working closely with Altice to provide them with a CCAP platform offering D3.0 plus D3.1 designed for long-term investment protection and full spectrum video, to simplify the evolution of their cable access network."

Altice is present in France, Israel, Belgium & Luxembourg, Portugal, the French West Indies/Indian Ocean Area, Dominican Republic and Switzerland, the company shows on its website.
