Cap Gemini Group SA, Europe’s biggest indigenous IT services provider, says a 15m pound ($24.1m) deal to operate and manage all of the hardware and software services of the UK’s soon to launch Open Interactive satellite television service, is its biggest win yet in a booming media sector, and possibly the biggest outsourcing contract ever awarded by a European media group.

Open Interactive, a joint venture of Sky TV, British Telecom, Matsushita and HSBC, is set to launch its interactive TV services in the UK this quarter. When it does, Cap Gemini will bear the responsibility of running virtually all of its electronic system, including a major Hewlett-Packard-based server farm that will host the Oracle-based customer response and content management systems.
