BT is incorporating Cisco FirePOWER into the BT Assure portfolio of managed security services, in order to enhance the data and systems protection offered to BT customers.

Cisco FirePOWER is a Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) that gives organisations complete visibility of all of their network layers.

It is designed to help organisations get a contextual awareness of users, infrastructure and applications, and Cisco FirePOWER is also capable of protecting organisation network against known and unknown threats.

Cisco has FirePOWER 8000 Series Appliances and Cisco FirePOWER 7000 Series Appliances.

The FirePOWER 7000 Series is the base platform for the Cisco FirePOWER Next-Generation IPS, and has throughput speeds from 2 Gbps up through 60 Gbps, while the 8000 series has throughput speeds from 50 Mbps up through 1.25 Gbps.

According to BT, in the wake of growing cyber security risks, securing network assets and data has become a challenge for global businesses.

It added that the legacy systems are also failing to provide full visibility into the network layers and IT resources of business environments, and it cannot provide the information required to know about the scale and impact of the potential security threats.

BT Security president Mark Hughes said: "When it comes to security, it is all about rethinking the risk. Organisations need new technologies to combat rapidly evolving cyber threats.

"We work with world class partners to strengthen our security portfolio and help organisations master this ever changing landscape.

"Cisco’s FirePOWER NGIPS brings a very strong additional capability to the arsenal of security solutions that BT customers can deploy to protect their critical assets and be prepared for the future."
