The system will be supplied by UK-based virtual network operator Sircom and will underpin the rollout of the NHS’ Electronic Prescription Service to almost 1000 Alliance Pharmacy stores and thousands of other UK independent pharmacies.

Sircom says it will work in partnership with Cegedim, a pharmacy IT supplier, to deliver a completely managed Broadband roll-out and support service needed to run the new EPS which is designed to accelerate prescription dispensing and reimbursement.

Sirocom says the solution features a high speed, secure and resilient connection to N3, the NHS’s new national backbone network with all necessary hardware for the connection in addition to configuration and installation.

Simon Rogan CEO of Virtual Network Operator Sirocom said, Broadband is transforming the way of delivering applications and automating processes. It’s finally become a business grade, high performing service that is dependable and competitively priced. And in this respect, it is ideal for enabling groundbreaking applications like the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). As a Virtual Network Operator (VNO), Sirocom is ideally positioned to support such an initiative.
