British Airways is introducing new barcode scanners to expand its support for Apple Watch users at London’s Heathrow airport.
The move was driven by the growing use of the airways’ Apple Watch app, which has quadrupled in only four months.
The airways is installing about 136 of the new Scan and Go handheld scanners at check-in desks across Heathrow’s Terminal 3 and 5. They will be ready for use from 15 December.
It will enable passengers to scan their boarding passes, print own baggage tags and then speed through the airport.
British Airways head of ba.com and mobile Kevin McQuillan said: "We are always striving to make our customers’ journeys easier through use of technology.
"When we saw the dramatic rise in the number of people using the app on their Apple watches we knew we needed to create new features in the terminal which would make the experience even better for them."
About five million customers who have downloaded the app onto their phones can also use the scanners.

British Airways said will also launch a new version of the app for iPads early next year to give customers access to all the existing functionality of the mobile app and include Highlife Entertainment listings.
