Internet security software provider Bitdefender has started selling a security solution, Bitdefender BOX, designed to protect Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Bitdefender BOX is a hardware device, which is capable of connecting to users’ home wireless routers and scan the network traffic to protect the devices connected to the internet from security and malware threats.

Bitdefender BOX comes along with protection software that can be customised and monitored using an accompanying Android or iOS mobile application.

Box will also act as a "plug and play" hardware gate, which will also provide users with access to cloud services for device management across household.

The new security solution is being sold using Avangate commerce platform, a product by Digital Commerce solution maker Avangate.

According to Avangate, its commerce solution is designed to help Bidefender with online software sales and physical delivery for Bitdefender’s BOX in the US.

Avangate will also manage BOX’s subscription billing, powering recurring transactions.

Bitdefender chief security strategist Catalin Cosoi said: "With 35% of Americans planning to invest in IoT devices in the next six months, the need for a solution to help enable the ‘Security of Things’ is more critical than ever before.

"Working with monetization challenge inherent to IoT and allowing us to focus on our technology and go to market Avangate as our US commerce partner helps us quickly meet the demands of this fast growing market.

"We are confident knowing Avangate can handle everything from the initial delivery of BOX’s hardware component, to managing the recurring online subscription for our additional software services, helping us alleviate the strategy."
