The work to build a standard Application Binary Interface for Embedded work – EABI – has been completed, according to the informal group that has been putting the specification together. The finished standard should ensure that compiler writers have a single, standard output format to write to, ensuring broad portability across embedded operating systems and hardware. The only problem now is how to ensure compliance. The grouping is a loose and informal one, so it may cast around for a third-party compliance-testing house in the near future, or just carry on informally. The official publication and announcement of the specification is expected before the month-end.
