Scientific Atlanta Inc’s PowerTV Systems Inc reports that its PowerTV Operating System and Eagle ASIC have been deployed in BellSouth Corp’s Chamblee, Georgia interactive television trial. The marketing and technical trial by BellSouth will make broadcast analog and digital interactive content, as well as high-speed personal computer access and computing, making it all available to 8,000 homes in the Greater Atlanta area by the end of next year. The PowerTV operating system is designed specifically for advanced television services, and comes bundled with PowerTV’s Eagle ASIC, a multimedia chip designed to control media processing hardware and enable graphics and audio integration.
